Emergency Contact Card

Emergency Contact Card is a system that alerts doctors and emergency personnel of a health condition, medical history, or other factors that may impact emergency medical services. Thousands of people are admitted to an emergency room each week in the UK alone. Many of them are unconscious or otherwise unable to communicate to hospital staff. As a result, the doctor may lack important information on other medical problems the patient may have, such as diabetes, which must be taken into consideration when providing care. With the proper information held on an Emergency Contact Card – for example, hospital staff can avoid giving medications that could interact adversely with other medications a patient may be taking.

One of the first Emergency Contact Card systems was developed in 2004 when the founder at a young age suffered a stroke then later had to undergo a heart bypass.

As a result, he designed an Emergency Contact Card for himself so he could carry all his medical history, medications and contact details. He began by producing Emergency Contact Cards from his home for other people and eventually built an organization that provides emergency contact cards for thousands of happy customers through out the UK and Europe. Many private companies now offer Emergency medical identification services. These services may include Bracelets – Jewellery – Emergency identification cards and computerized back-up information on the patient’s medical conditions People should carry an Emergency Contact Card when they have a medical condition, allergy, implant, or medication that could be life threatening in an emergency situation. It is estimated that that at least 10 million people in the UK alone have a medical condition that should be known in times of emergency.
