Tips for a safe Christmas Holiday:.
If you are going away this Christmas, remember to open the loft hatch to the roof space: this allows any warm air to circulate to help avoid frozen pipes and keep the heating on low to avoid frozen pipes..
Thieves target homes that look empty, so leave a few lights on: even better invest in an automatic light switch timer.
Take time to plan any journey if you are driving. With the amount of traffic increasing on the roads every Christmas it could easily take you double the amount of time it normally takes. Also, make sure you check that your break-down cover is up to date.
Tell the neighbours you are going and how to contact you: you would be surprised how many people come home to find something has happened and no one knew how to contact them.
Carry with you a form of Medical Id Card in case of Emergency: Do you know the medications and health history of your partner? You also need to know your family will be informed as soon as possible if anything were to happen to you.

This week MediPAL welcomes Scott Bowes to the team. Scott who has recently left Collage, will be producing the MediPAL cards along with helping the Marketing team.

Isn’t that the doctors job?

Why is it so important to carry all this information? Isn’t that the doctors’ job?
Patients often arrive at hospitals without any information about their medical problems. This presents a difficult and potentially dangerous situation. Although the tests and medicines doctors have are very powerful, they can also be unsafe if used on the wrong person. Knowledge of your medical problems can effectively prevent giving you the wrong medication or performing a risky test.
Additionally, many of these tests are time consuming and can delay important treatments. If you carry their own medical information, it can allow doctors to save time and provide care more efficiently. In an emergency, this can sometimes mean the difference between life and death.
These tests can also be very expensive and might not be necessary. However, when doctors have no knowledge of a patient’s medical history, they are forced to perform these tests at great cost. When patients carry their medical information, this has the added advantage of being less expensive while actually allowing a higher level of care.
Finally, beyond the need to provide immediate care is the importance of contacting family, friends, and physicians. Not only can these people provide important information, but they also can offer much-needed support for you. Having the ability to contact families early in your care can help simplify very complicated situations.
Emergency medical care can be life-saving but is often filled with difficult and expensive decisions that must be made as rapidly as possible. Maintaining your own records is one of the best ways for you to take an active role in your own health care and ensure that you receive rapid, effective, and safe treatment in both emergency and routine medical situations

Duddon and Furness Mountain Rescue Team

Duddon and Furness Mountain rescue team based in Cumbria have informed their volunteers to look for MediPAL cards to aid them in assessing medical conditions of personel that need rescuing – they recommend walkers carry them at all times.
